The summary is a short description of your route — typically a sentence or two. We use it in social sharing previews, meta descriptions, and anywhere we need a compact version of your listing.
Where to find it
In the route editor, go to Details > Summary.
What to write
Aim for one to two sentences — around 150–200 characters. The summary should capture the essence of the route: where it goes, what makes it special, and who it’s for. Think of it as the one thing you’d say if you only had a moment to describe the route.
For example: “A spectacular coastal run from Scarborough to Whitby, skirting clifftops and passing through Robin Hood’s Bay — one of Britain’s most beautiful bus journeys.”
Tips
- Write in the third person — the summary describes the route, not instructions to the user
- Include the key places the route serves
- Avoid repeating your headline word for word
- Don’t end with a call to action — save that for the marketing description
