Genre tags help passengers discover your route through Scenic’s browse and filter tools. They describe the character and type of the route — things like “Scenic Railway”, “Open Top Bus”, “Coastal Route”, or “Heritage Service”. Getting these right significantly improves your route’s visibility.
Where to find it
In the route editor, go to Categories > Genre tags.
How to choose
You’ll see a list of available genre tags to select from. Choose all that genuinely apply to your route — but don’t over-tag. A route that’s tagged as everything will appear in every list, which dilutes its relevance. Pick the three to six tags that most accurately describe what makes the route distinctive.
Tips
- Think about how a traveller would describe the route to a friend — “it’s a coastal bus route with open-top sections” maps directly to genre tags
- If your route runs through a National Park, there’s likely a relevant tag for that
- Tags like “Open Top” and “Heritage” are strong draws for leisure travellers — use them if they apply
- If you think a relevant tag is missing, get in touch with us and we’ll consider adding it
