Where do we show images & video on the website?

Understanding where your images appear on Scenic helps you choose the right photos and make the most of the media you upload. Here’s a rundown of the main places your media is shown.

Route listing pod

The route listing pod is the card that represents your route in search results, category pages, and on the homepage. It shows your featured image — the primary photo for your listing. This image should be high quality and landscape-format, ideally showing the route or landscape at its most dramatic.

Listing page — main image

At the top of your full listing page, we show your featured image large and prominently. It’s also used as the preview image when your listing is shared on social media or via messaging apps, so it’s worth choosing something that looks great at a range of sizes.

Listing page — gallery

Further down the listing, you’ll find the “Sights to see along the way” gallery. This pulls in images from the attractions and locations you’ve linked to your route. The more locations and attractions you’ve added — and the more images those locations have — the richer this gallery becomes.

This is why we recommend uploading images to specific locations and attractions rather than uploading everything directly to the route. Images uploaded to a location appear in the gallery automatically once that location is tagged to your route.

Video

You can also add a YouTube video to your listing — for example, a route promotional video or a scenic journey film. Video appears as an embed within your listing page. To add a video, go to Media > Video in the route editor and paste in the YouTube URL.

Image guidelines

  • Use landscape-format images wherever possible — portrait images don’t display well on listing cards
  • Aim for a minimum of 1200px wide at 72dpi — larger is always better
  • Show the route or landscape, not just the vehicle — scenic imagery performs better
  • Avoid text overlays, logos, or watermarks on images used as featured images
  • JPG or PNG formats are both accepted
