What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website saves on your computer or phone. Some are needed for the site to work. Others help us understand how the site is used, so we can make it better.

How we ask for your consent

When you first visit our site, a short notice asks what you’re happy with. You can:

  • Accept all – switch on analytics and marketing
  • Reject all – keep only the cookies the site needs to work
  • Choose – pick the categories you’re happy with

Nothing in the analytics or marketing categories loads until you’ve said yes.

Changing your mind

You can change your choice at any time. Use the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page, or change your cookie choices here. If you switch a category off, we stop loading those tools from your next page.

The categories we use

Necessary (always on)

These keep the site working: loading pages, sending the contact form, and remembering your cookie choice.

CookieWhat it doesHow long it lasts
cc_cookieRemembers your cookie choice6 months

If you’re logged in to our website, WordPress also sets a few cookies to keep you signed in. These only apply to our clients and team.

Analytics (off until you switch it on)

These show us which pages people read and where they get stuck, so we can fix what isn’t working.

ToolWhat it doesCookiesHow long they last
Google Analytics (GA4)Counts visits and shows how people move around the site_ga, _ga_*Up to 2 years
Microsoft ClarityHeatmaps and session recordings, so we can see where the site is confusing_clck, _clskUp to 1 year

If you reject analytics, Microsoft Clarity doesn’t load at all. Google Analytics uses Google Consent Mode: it sends a basic, anonymous signal that a page was viewed, but sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device.

Marketing (off until you switch it on)

This lets us measure which campaigns bring people to the site. We don’t currently run any advertising pixels. If we add one in future, such as LinkedIn or Meta, it will only load if you switch Marketing on, and we’ll list it here.

Cookieless analytics

We also use two privacy-friendly tools that don’t need cookies:

  • Fathom Analytics – simple visitor counts
  • PostHog – how people use the site, such as page views and clicks

Neither stores cookies or any identifier on your device, and neither can recognise you from one visit to the next. Because of this, they run whatever you choose in the cookie notice.

How we record your choice

When you make a choice, we save it in the cc_cookie cookie on your device, along with a random consent ID and the date. We also keep a copy of that consent ID, your choices and the date in PostHog. This lets us show which choice was made, and when, if we’re ever asked. The consent ID doesn’t identify you by name.

We’ll ask you again after six months, or sooner if we change the categories or tools described here.

Updates to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, to reflect changes in the tools we use or for legal or regulatory reasons. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
